Climate Security

Communities face increasing threats to natural resources and ecosystems and there is critical need to support stakeholders from the private and public sectors and civil society to improve natural resource management, conserve biodiversity, and strengthen climate resilient development.

Climate change is one of the greatest risks to human security which is being felt across from the community right through to the global level. Provided below are some key ways in which we address such complex challenges:

  • Provide advisory support to businesses, investors, donors and governments on how best to incorporate ESG standards and principles in order to increase economic growth and/or mobilize capital and investment.
  • Work with SMEs and guide them towards adopting green and sustainable production practices, given that this is now being required within global value chains.
  • Support MSMEs and communities to build resilience by helping governments and development actors improve and adapt disaster risk reduction systems and invest in environmental safeguarding initiatives.
  • Embed climate security in our Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning activities by identifying how climate security intersects with the programs we evaluate and research the influence one has over the other to reduce programmatic risks and drive better ambitions.
  • Address climate drivers of conflict and instability (e.g., natural resource insecurity, extreme weather and ecosystem degradation in conflict, etc.) through research, evidence generation and risk management to support our partners and clients to incorporate climate security considerations at policy and programming levels.
